ComForEn 2021 - 11. Symposium on Communications for Energy Systems

The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, TU Wien and the OVE Austrian Electrotechnical Association invite experts from research and industry to discuss the further challenges on the way to a sustainable energy system. ComForEn is aimed at component and system manufacturers, network operators, energy suppliers, research institutions and energy community operators. The event is known for intensive exchange and its outdoor “project walk” session format.

Energy management plays an important role for energy communities. Flexible loads and storage systems are the screws to turn for optimal self-sufficiency and reduced energy exchange with the public grid. However, these functionalities require monitoring, control and automation systems, often resulting in very complex and expensive solutions. Furthermore, each energy community tends to be unique not only in its available energy sources and demand patterns, but also in terms of ICT architecture. 

Key topics of ComForEn 2021 will be:

•    Reduction of the complexity of ICT systems in energy community as a key for their success
•    Planning, realisation and operation of energy communities 
•    ICT reference architectures to achieve straight-forward IT solutions and integration of energy resources such as photovoltaic inverters, charging stations or batteries.   
•    ICT-enabled optimisation of supply and demand in an energy community

Additional project workshops and the supporting program offer a platform for the targeted transfer of knowledge from ongoing research and development activities.



It is possible to switch from on-site to online tickets. If you have booked an Early-Bird ticket, you will be transferred to an Online (normal price) ticket free of charge.

Cancellation conditions for participants

Please understand that we can only accept cancellations in writing!

In case of cancellation 14 to 7 working days before the event, we charge 50% of the participation fee. In case of cancellation after that or no-show on the day of the event, regardless of the reason for the cancellation, the full participation fee will be charged.

The cancellation fee is to be paid regardless of the reasons for cancellation and any fault.

In case of illness or other reasons for not being able to attend, we will gladly accept a substitute participant without additional costs. Please inform us as soon as possible.

COVID-19 special regulation:

If the conference cannot take place due to official measures, the participation fees will be refunden.

In case of a local lockdown or quarantine due to Covid-19 restrictions ordered by authorities, participants can cancel their registration free of charge up to 7 days in advance. This cancellation requires proof and a handling fee of 10 €. The changeover to online participation is free of charge.

Event cancellation

Events can only be held if a minimum number of participants is reached. If this is not the case, we will inform you in time about the cancellation.

If an event has to be cancelled (e.g. illness of the trainer), the fee will be refunded or, if you wish, you can be rebooked for one of our other events or receive a credit note.

Compensation for expenses already incurred (e.g. travel costs, accommodation costs, travel expenses, loss of earnings, etc.) is excluded.



Bitte beachten Sie bei der Präsenz-Teilnahme die gültigen, aktuellen Covid-Regeln in Wien und bringen Sie bitte die notwendigen Nachweise mit. Stand 13.11.2021: Es gilt für den Zutritt ausnahmslos die 2G plus-Regel - geimpft (max. 9 Monate) oder genesen (max. 6 Monate) plus PCR getestet.


Registration for ComForEn 2021 includes:

  • Conference participation on November 22nd and 23rd
  • Participation on workshops on November 23rd (in the afternoon)
  • Catering during breaks, social program, dinner, conference documents
